Surface Preparation:

  • Ensure bare wood species with natural wood extractives weather off (min. 4 weeks) before the initial treatment or clean with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (degreaser).
  • Resinous wood like Larch or Douglas Fir should weather off for at least 6 weeks to improve absorbency.
  • Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species require a minimum of 3 months of weathering.
  • Cedar needs a 3-month weathering period for better absorbency.
  • Refresh greyed and weathered wood with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying Osmo Decking Oils.
  • Avoid using jet/power washers as they can affect coverage.
  • Wood surface must be clean, dry, and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%).
  • Osmo Decking-Oil is ready to use, do not thin.

Method of Application:

  • Use a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth and apply thinly and evenly along the wood grain on clean, dry wood.
  • For a quick application, consider the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm).
  • Allow for good ventilation while drying, and apply the second coat once the first is dry.
  • For UV protection, apply a clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 as the second coat for darker shades.
